Profile password

Help · Security

A profile password is extra protection: even someone signed in to the account can't open the profile without it.

Set

  1. Stop the profile.
  2. Profile settings → Protection → Set password (6 characters or more).
  3. Change and Remove password are there too.

How it works

The password is asked once per app session — the “Profile password” window → Open. Colleagues and your other computers need the same password.

Important

We don't store the profile password and can't recover it.

Possible errors

The profile is password-protected.

Why: The profile password hasn't been entered in this session.

What to do: Enter the password in the window that appears.

Wrong password.

Why: The profile password doesn't match.

What to do: Check your keyboard layout. Ask whoever set the password.

Turn on account encryption in Settings first.

Why: The profile password works on top of account encryption.

What to do: Settings → Encryption → Turn on.

Stop the profile to change its password.

Why: The password can only be changed on a stopped profile.

What to do: Stop the profile.

The password is shorter than six characters.

Why: At least 6 characters are required.

What to do: Choose a longer password.

Data for “…” wasn't sent: The profile is password-protected. Open it here to release the lock.

Why: The key wasn't unlocked when the profile was closed, so the data wasn't encrypted for sending.

What to do: Launch the profile on this computer and enter the password — after you close it, the data will be sent and the lock released.
